This year expect to see in-flight Wi-Fi, accent lighting, complimentary snacks, just to name a few, to be trending in regards to air travel.

In-Flight Entertainment

Manufacturers of in-flight entertainment (IFE) will offer more options to compete with the “bring your own device” campaigns that many airlines currently market to passengers. Products such as the iPax Wireless IFE by Lemexis allows passenger a selection of high-definition entertainment on thin, light-weight seat-back screens.

Wi-Fi Expansion

Passengers will see expansion and improvement as several airlines begin upgrading aircraft for the next generation of in-flight Wi-Fi. With connectivity being a top priority for business travelers, in-flight Wi-Fi has gone from a basic connection to more robust connectivity. Since the demand for high-functioning in-flight Wi-Fi has increased, many domestic and international carriers know how important Wi-Fi offered on flights is to meet the needs of passengers.

Always Stay Charged

Between phones, tablets and e-readers, carrying the correct cords and finding enough outlets for charging can be frustrating. Travelers will see innovative device-charging in the future as it becomes more difficult to keep all electronics charged. Airlines are developing charging surfaces that will be free of cables and plugs. Just think…setting your device down on your tray table and it automatically charges would eliminate the headache of charging before your flight.

New Destinations

Airlines are always focusing on expansion and 2016 is all about growth, especially for carriers such as Alaska Airlines.  Alaska added 10 additional routes to places such as New York – JFK, Raleigh/Durham, Charlotte and Nashville in 2015 and plans to continue adding in 2016. In addition, Alaska Airlines has also added three new partners to their Mileage Plan, giving members more global connections. The partnership between Alaska Airlines and Hainan, Emirates and Icelandair will bring over 900 destinations spanning over six continents.

Complimentary Snacks and Drinks

After a near complete extinction of flyer-friendly amenities, complimentary snacks and drinks are making a comeback. Carriers such as United Airlines announced it would be serving free snacks and premium coffee beginning this summer as well as complimentary meals and free beer and wine on many Latin America and Caribbean flights. The airline is also offering Mileage Plus Global Services and Premier 1K members a free complimentary Choice Menu food item. Airlines are looking to make lasting impressions on passengers and find that complimentary snacks and drinks go a long w

For many, individual New Years’ resolutions revolve around achieving a better work-life balance. This is especially true for Road Warriors, who often travel frequently and are separated from their loved ones. Achieving a satisfactory work-life balance is very individual; no simple answer will work for everyone.

Creating a work-life balance can be challenging, but essential for health, happiness and success. The changes that come with a positive work-life balance could be as simple (or difficult) as getting more exercise or cutting down on caffeine or learning to disconnect from technology and changing one’s working habits.

Tangerine Travel has organized some suggestions to help you stick to your New Years’ resolution of improving work-life balance:

Establish a Work Routine

Clearly communicate your work schedule with your team, and focus on staying on schedule. You can certainly deviate in the event of an emergency, however make that the exception rather than the rule. To help with your time management throughout the work day establish a specific time frame (such as after lunch) during which you commit to handling inquiries such as emails, phone calls or employee questions comes through. This also lets those with questions know when they can realistically expect a response from you.

It’s Time to Disconnect

When you are off the clock, fully disconnect from your computer or smartphone. To avoid the temptation to check your email and social media accounts, disable push notifications. This will allow you to focus on the people around you.

Focus on a Healthy Lifestyle

Many Road Warriors start their day with caffeine, however excessive amounts of it can cause anxiety. Try healthier beverages such as fresh squeezed juice, tea or water. In addition to eating healthy, regular exercise has physical and mental benefits. Not enough time to get to the gym? Tangerine Travel suggests using the Simply Yoga app. The workout app guides you through a 10, 20, 40 or 60 minute yoga workout wherever you are. Simply Yoga walks you through more than 60 poses step-by-step and allows you to build custom workouts.

Analyze Your Activity

Wearable devices made by FitBit and Apple allow individuals to monitor their movement and sleep habits. The wearable technology can be helpful aids when analyzing what might be necessary to create a better work-life balance. The body is more relaxed with a natural circadian rhythm which will aid in your balance between work and personal time.

Make a Daily To-Do List

Divide tasks into sections of what must be done immediately, and what can wait. Checking off items as they are accomplished will provide a great sense of satisfaction. Each week include long term lists. An important item to plan in advance is vacation. To maintain a work-life balance, make sure to take at least one vacation annually. In order to make sure you do it, actively schedule it like any other task.

Need help achieving the best work-life balance for you? Tangerine Travel can help manage your corporate travel schedule as well as your personal travel. Take a break from the boardroom and head to the beach! We will customize the most relaxing trip for you!

With the winter months being some of the busiest months for travel, Tangerine Travel understands the importance of staying healthy.  Between December and February is peak flu season and in addition to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendation that individuals receive an annual flu shot, there are a number of preventative steps travelers can take to stay healthy while on the road.

Stay Active in the Sky

During a flight, make sure to walk around the cabin each hour to promote circulation. If you are able, attempt to do some stretching while seated.  Rotate and flex ankles, feet and toes whenever possible to stay limber in tight airplane quarters. If possible wear compression stockings, these will assist in maintaining blood flow for the duration of your trip.  Skip the alcohol and soda and drink lots of water. Water will keep you hydrated and will help to fight swelling and dry skin which can be brought on by your plane ride.

Clean Eating

When traveling, eat foods with high nutritional value, such as fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds.  Supplements that include garlic, Echinacea, ginseng and probiotics can also bolster the immune system.  Stay away from foods high in sodium as this can also add pressure on the circulatory system. Eating healthy, well balanced meals does not need to be boring. Take the opportunity to explore new ways to eat.  Hotels are now offering menus based such things as the “philosophy of macrobiotics” or dishes made of raw vegan cuisine.  If your hotel dining options are unappealing, visit restaurants like True Food which is all organic and natural with gluten free, vegan and vegetarian options.

Wellness is Part of Your Stay

More hotels continue to add wellness features, programs and amenities to their everyday offerings.  Fairmont Fit™ and Hyatt properties have introduced yoga, running, walking and hiking tours to guests free of charge. The Mandarin Oriental in Las Vegas (a top destination for meetings and conventions) offers each guest a welcome cup of tea and warm towels upon arrival, vegan and gluten free options in all restaurants, plus complimentary daily yoga and Pilates classes. In addition to fitness and relaxation, make sure to get more than 6 hours of sleep while traveling. Getting less than 6 hours of sleep increases the odds of catching a cold.  Dressing for comfort can help you ease into sleep.  Wear comfortable clothes as tight clothes can cut off blood flow.

Watch for Bacteria

When traveling wash your hands frequently or keep hand sanitizer readily available, especially when touching high-contact areas.  On airplanes, overhead bin handles, armrests, tray tables and bathroom faucets and door handles often contain many strains of bacteria. Keep antibacterial wipes handy to wipe down surfaces that you may use while traveling to lower your risk of catching a bug. In addition to the germs around airports, rental cars and other travel necessities travelers need to watch for everyday activities that can cause illness. When traveling, contact lens wearers should opt for glasses instead of leaving contact lens in for long hours.  When on a plane the dry, recycled cabin air can irritate eyes and can also make them susceptible to outside bacteria.
